A symbol of the architecture and religious history of Porto
Founded in the late XVI century and located in the heart of Porto’s historical centre, the Mosteiro São Bento da Vitória – considered National Monument since 1977 – is one of the city’s most important religious buildings. Between 1985 and 1990, the Monastery was under renovation work, maintaining the original design of several elements with great architectonic relevance, allowing the installation of the National Porto Orchestra during the event Porto 2001 – European Capital of Culture. Nowadays the Monastery represents an important cultural movement for the city being a perfect venue for the organization of theatre performances, concerts and special events.
